Meet Amanda Shaw MA, LMHC, ATR
Amanda Shaw is a licensed mental health counselor in Florida (MH 20223) who is also credentialed in art therapy (ATR), certified by the Art Therapy Credentials Board, Inc. She opened Create Flow Heal Art Therapy & Counseling in February 2022, where she primarily sees clients in the office, with some availability online.
Amanda’s professional expertise is working in the areas of crisis stabilization, trauma, depression, suicidal ideation, self-harm, mood disorders, eating disorders and anxiety. In addition to talk therapy, she utilizes art therapy to assist clients who may find traditional talk therapy to be intimidating or challenging.
Amanda competed her master’s degree (MA) at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. with an emphasis on trauma-informed care and art psychotherapy. Her research included using bilateral art therapy while working with clients who were suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Amanda received her bachelor of science degree (BS) at the University of Central Florida with a concentration in psychology and a minor in studio art. As a college student, Amanda received about 10 scholarships, served as a Federal Work-Study student at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C., and studied abroad in Croatia, providing therapy to orphans and war veterans from the Croatian War of Independence.
Amanda works with her clients to develop a treatment plan that focuses on their unique goals. Some goals might include increasing self-esteem, practicing self-acceptance, learning coping skills, increasing frustration tolerance, working through grief and loss, engaging in trauma processing, or deepening interpersonal relationships.
Being an artist at heart, Amanda loves painting and creating, doing yoga, and walking her puppy, Bentley, who keeps her on her toes! Amanda also enjoys the fine taste of chocolate, playing competitive chess, and a good game of phase 10. Her therapeutic style could be described as client-centered, kind, non-judgmental, expressive, and encouraging. She would be honored to walk beside you and/or your child through a journey of healing.
